"Yo! What up?"
"Dude, I am so totally stoked about the smokin' chance we have to make a mega-difference on GHG."
"Yeah, we need to be completely rockin' it by the time the Lege fires up in January."
"No doubt."
Translation:
"Hello there! How are you doing?"
"I must say, I am very excited about the excellent possibilities we have before us to have a major impact on reducing the greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change."
"You are correct. We have a lot of work to do so that we're ready to be involved when the 2009 ...

Cross-posted from the Breakthrough InstituteThe world's energy watchdog, the International Energy Agency, released their annual World Energy Outlook report today, and it starts out with a bang. The first paragraph of the IEA report reads:
"The world's energy system is at a crossroads. Current global trends in energy supply and consumption are patently unsustainable - environmentally, economically, socially. But that can - and must - be altered; there's still time to change the road we're on. It is not an exaggeration to claim that the future of human prosperity depends on how successfully we tackle the two central ...
BREAKING NEWS: The Sierra Club just won a HUGE legal victory in a coal permitting case at the Environmental Protection Agency's Environmental Appeals Board. The ruling in the Bonanza coal plant permitting case (pdf) ruled with the Club's lawyers that since the Mass. v EPA Supreme Court ruling said Carbon Dioxide is a pollutant under the Clean Air Act, new coal-fired power plants must implement "Best Available Control Technology" (BACT for short) for CO2.
While the Sierra Club's legal team and other lawyers are still determining the full implications of the decision, it appears that this decision ...

Barack Obama has said it's his top priority if elected, so we should expect more people like Troy the wind turbine builder to find well-paying, dignified work that helps put America back on track.
Hat tip to Clean Tech and Green Businesses for Obama.

We have been trying to restore a pristine environment through federal regulation for nearly 40 years, with little to show for it except a Federally-created right to pollute up to a "permitted" amount, measurable and changeable on the whims of the executive.
It is long past time to reconstitute pollution trespass on our bodies and property as a civil tort.
If the power companies had to start compensating people for the true costs of their pollution (e.g. environmental health risks from mercury and other metals in their effluent), most of the coal-fired power plants would shut down overnight.

China's greenhouse gas pollution could double or more in two decades. This according to the Chinese Academy of Sciences in a report breaking with official reticence on the subject, reports Reuters. Beijing hasn't released recent official data on emissions from coal, oil and gas. But researchers abroad estimate China's CO2 emissions now surpass the US, the biggest emitter in recent decades.
By 2020 China's could emit 2.9 billion tons of pure carbon annually. By 2030, up to 4.0 billion tons yearly. The Chinese Academy of Sciences estimates China's current CO2 emissions by citing ...
